Strength in Adversity follows the life, times and exploits of Gary's great-great-great grandfather on his journey, after being falsely accused, sentenced to death, commuted and sent as a convict to Australia. Initially transported to the penal settlement in Sydney, then to Moreton Bay, Port Macquarie, he finally became an early pioneer of Kempsey and the Macleay Valley district. The second part of the volume contains stories of Gary’s great uncles who went to and returned from “The Great War”. The book finishes with several stories of further generations and a couple of remarkable people from the early days of Victoria. Gary has been writing and performing poetry for the last 20 odd years.
